How to build camera confidence
Your voice starts shaking, your eyes dart around, and you wonder, “Who sent me message?” Maybe you’ve tried to shoot a video for your real estate listing or your small business, but after 10 takes, you still hate how you look or sound. You delete everything and tell yourself, “Maybe I’m just not good at this.”
You’re not alone.
Many realtors and self-employed students feel this way. You know you need to show up online. You’ve seen others doing it—posting videos, getting clients, building trust. But when it’s your turn, fear grips you. You worry about your accent, your background, your grammar, your face. You think people will laugh or ignore you.
But here’s the truth: confidence on camera is not a gift. It’s a skill. And like every skill, it can be learned.
Let’s start small.
1. Start with your phone camera
Don’t wait for a fancy setup. Use what you have. Open your phone camera and talk to yourself. No pressure. Just say what you did today. Or explain a property like you’re talking to a friend. Do this daily. You’re not posting yet—just practicing.
2. Watch yourself without judgment
Yes, it feels weird. But watch your videos. Not to criticize, but to learn. Notice what you like. Maybe your smile is warm. Maybe your voice is calm. Build on that. Don’t focus on mistakes. Focus on progress.
3. Talk to one person, not the whole world
When recording, imagine you’re talking to one client. Not “followers.” Not “audience.” Just one person who needs your help. This makes your tone natural and your message clearer.
4. Prepare, but don’t memorize
Write down 3 points you want to say. Practice them. But don’t cram like an exam. Speak from your heart. People connect with real, not perfect.
5. Post your first video
Yes, post it. Even if it’s not perfect. Especially if it’s not perfect. That’s how you grow. Your first video is not for likes. It’s for courage. The second one will be better. The tenth will be great.
6. Keep showing up
Confidence is built by doing. The more you show up, the less fear you feel. You’ll start enjoying it. You’ll start hearing things like, “I love your videos,” or “You explain things so well.”
Remember: people don’t need you to be perfect. They need you to be present.
So, if you’re a realtor trying to sell more homes, or a student building your brand, don’t wait to feel confident before you start. Start, and confidence will follow.
Now, go record that video. Your future clients are waiting.
Ngwanu. Bye π.
